may morning walk- just another awesome day

May 20, 2024 by Heather

It’s no big thing, just another day in the awesome place I live. If you lived here, you would be trotting alongside the river with an americano from Rocking Horse bakery too. Completely compatible with your van lifestyle.

Cowgirl Envy

May 20, 2024 by Heather

The annual “candy parade” as seen from the viewpoint of a 5 year old is another 49ers success story. What’s not to like about western glam dancing?

Winter Has Cometh!

January 20, 2024 by Heather

I hauled it out of it’s hidey hole. You’re welcome. So if you have been waiting to come on out due to improper snow behavior- wait no more! Fat bike, nordic, downhill, ice skate, sled, snow mobile, snowshoe. Walk to the restaurant from your car…. but in yak tracks. I call that interacting with snow as well. But GET SOME. It’ll make your lungs tingle and your heart sing.

Normal Human Biking

October 13, 2023 by Heather

Terrified of single track riding! I’m a biking lightweight. Give me a flat, wide, not too steep stretch of pavement or dirt with low traffic….and I’m in! Harder to find than you think. For all of you humans out there that do not have your heart rate monitor synced to your Apple watch (not that there’s anything wrong with that), you will like this ride. You can even make a loop of it if you are feeling froggy. Here’s to perfect fall days for average bikers! Pass Bear Creek Golf Course and keep driving till the pavement ends on Bear Creek Rd, bike till you get tired, turn around. How is that for technical 🙂 Or you can just keep going till you get dropped out on East Chewuch Rd, about 2 miles outside of Winthrop.

wolf creek me, loud and hard!

May 8, 2023 by Heather

Water levels are peaking, no words needed (even if you could hear them.) Rushing down our hillsides in to creeks, into rivers, back to the ocean. A violent, muddy, visceral experience that happens every year. Way cool. Late May is a great time to get your white water rafting on. With a guide, if you value your life! You can check out Methow Rafting’s website for trip options. Or just sit on a rock, enjoy the soothing roar, and imagine yourself as a log in the current. That works too.

first snow big snow

November 8, 2022 by Heather

Big snow fell the last two days in the Methow Valley, over a month sooner than last year. I am still not plowed out, an inconvenience that I sort of like. First snow always feels like a fantasy world. Big and little kids standing out in the haze, underdressed, with their tongues out, catching flakes.
