Turns out being cool on horseback is not so easy. Early Winters Outfitters out of Mazama guided my party of 10 people (including 3 kids) to Cooney Lake, about 8 miles UP from Foggy Dew Trailhead (Gold Creek Carlton area). Amazing experience. I highly recommend you experience your own horse adventure one day soon in the Methow Valley.  I am proof that anyone can do it. Ha!

Water levels are peaking, no words needed (even if you could hear them.) Rushing down our hillsides in to creeks, into rivers, back to the ocean. A violent, muddy, visceral experience that happens every year. Way cool. Late May is a great time to get your white water rafting on. With a guide, if you value your life! You can check out Methow Rafting’s website for trip options. Or just sit on a rock, enjoy the soothing roar, and imagine yourself as a log in the current. That works too.

I love those big blue sky days, but mysterious moody works for me too! When I posted my “first snowfall” video mid November, I never thought it would stick around, but the snow is still fabulous and still here. Winter play may be on for another 2 months, so come and get it! Ice skate, sled, snow shoe, ice fish, nordic, and downhill skiing are rocking it hard.

Big snow fell the last two days in the Methow Valley, over a month sooner than last year. I am still not plowed out, an inconvenience that I sort of like. First snow always feels like a fantasy world. Big and little kids standing out in the haze, underdressed, with their tongues out, catching flakes.

Coming back feels AWESOME

Dropping back into the valley after a short or long trip away always brings that sense of YES, this is the place, I love it here. It still does it for me after 15 years. No matter how long you’ve been away, the sun and early fall air make it a perfect time to come back. And can it be….there is more inventory at better prices with little competition?? What !$$##@
